Current Lab Members

Ruth Giblin

Ruth earned her B.S. in microbiology from MSU in the fall of 2025. She began working in the Abdelhamid Lab in fall '24 and is continuing to work in the lab as a post-baccalaureate research assistant. Her project focuses on the impact of sanitizers on Salmonella biofilm transfer to fresh produce.

Shelby Hudson

Shelby is an undergraduate student working towards a bachelor's degree in Food Science with a concentration in Business and Industry and a minor in Beverage Science and Technology. She is a senior planning to graduate in spring 2026 and looking to pursue a career in food microbiology.

Ivanna Edgerton

Ivanna is an undergraduate student working towards a bachelor's degree in Food Science with double concentrations in Technology and Business & Industry, as well as minors in Spanish, Business, and Beverage Science & Technology. She joined the Abdelhamid Lab in January 2026.

Lab Alumni

James Nelon

James joined the Abdelhamid Lab in the fall of 2024 and conducted research on novel lactic acid bacteria in artisan raw milk cheeses until graduating in the fall of 2025 with a B.S. in microbiology.

Emilee joined the Abdelhamid Lab in fall 2024 and conducted research on characterizing and eliminating Salmonella presence in sprouts before graduating in spring 2025 with a B.S. in microbiology.
