Research Focus

The Abdelhamid Lab's research interests lie in exploring the diverse world of food microbiology, especially the intricate relationships between microbes and food safety, quality, and human health. Our lab is balanced between investigation of food microbiology's highs – the microbial basis for fermented food production and preservation – and its lows – virulence factors, stress responses and biofilm formation used by foodborne pathogens to generate foodborne illness outbreaks. We are passionate about unraveling the complexities of microbial behavior in various food environments.
